My inspiration for this painting
On a long hike deep in the forest, in a season of difficult decisions, the trees closed in until I could see only what was directly ahead. Then I looked up through the canopy — and the sun broke through. I have never forgotten it: how little we see, and how much opens when we remember to look up.
My process
I paint in oils, layer over layer, each one blended into the last by hand. Looking Up took more than a hundred hours at the easel — built slowly, the way light itself gathers in a forest.
When the fifty are gone, this edition closes forever.
